    Layers vs. insulated snowboard jacket

Do you opt for an insulated snowboard or ski jacket or a layering system with a Gore-Tex Shell?

A layering system during your winter sports.

When choosing your snowboard or ski jacket, your activity plays a big role. For ski touring and splitboarding, a layering system with a thin Gore-Tex shell is often a good choice. This system offers flexibility: you can easily add or remove layers depending on intensity and weather conditions. The Gore-Tex outer shell protects against wind and precipitation, while breathable mid and base layers allow you to regulate your temperature during climbs.

When do you choose an insulated jacket?

An insulated jacket, on the other hand, is ideal for those who primarily stay within ski areas and use ski elevators to get up the mountain. These jackets offer built-in warmth, which is useful if you move less actively and sit still a lot in cold conditions. They are less versatile for intensive tours because they tend to be heavier and less breathable.

In short, choose a layering system with a Gore-Tex shell if flexibility and breathability are important to you, especially on strenuous treks. For comfort and simplicity in cold weather on the slopes, an insulated jacket is ideal.

Of course, we've compared quite a few options for you, both for the layering system and the insulated jacket.
